Chrysler has finished the 100 cars that will be part of the Waymo fleet, the company that was born in Google X and that for a few days is already an independent company within Alphabet.
The vehicles, Pacifica minivans, to be delivered in early 2017, are the result of a partnership between Fiat Chrysler and Waymo, a group work where the professionals from Alphabet take care of the software part, leaving the manufacture of the car with whom He has decades of experience on the subject.
Waymo had been testing several different prototypes, down to the one with the most integration with Waymo's self-driving hardware. They are cars, hybrid-powered / plug-in, that manage to quickly and solidly integrate the electrical and control systems of the vehicle with the completely self-taught system, according to Fiat Chrysler, since they have managed to modify the electrical system, the powertrain. , the chassis and structural systems of the vehicle to prepare the van for its new reality.
The tests carried out include 200 hours of driving in extreme weather, a point that still has to be developed a lot in the sector.
The goal is to have the first cars on the streets of California, Washington, Arizona and Texas during 2017.
