The DIY mechanism that changes the orientation of the monitor depending on what you need

A handyman has modified a monitor that changes orientation mechanically; no need to change it manually every time you need it.

Panoramic monitors already completely dominate the market, and it is very difficult to find one that is not. That is for all the advantages they have, especially when watching videos or playing.

Read or edit a document, the worst of panoramic monitors

But panoramic monitors are not perfect for everything; as they are wider than they are tall, they are not exactly ideal for reading documents. If we open a book, for example, most of the screen will be unused.

There is nothing worse than wasting screen space, but we don’t have many alternatives. One of them is to buy a monitor with a mechanism with which we can put the screen vertically.

In this way, the document will occupy most of the screen, and be better for the view. That sounds great, but the bad thing is that we will have to constantly move the screen, switching between modes.

A monitor that changes orientation DIY

Robert Johnson suffered the same annoyance, ensuring that he was lost whenever he worked with documents horizontally. So I decided to do something about it; To do this, he modified his panoramic monitor with a mechanism that rotated the screen, between landscape and portrait mode.

This mechanism was not difficult to create, although I did meet a few challenges. I couldn’t just put a motor in the back of the monitor; It had to take into account aspects such as size or weight.

For example, the biggest danger is that the screen loses balance and falls during the change; If you make the change manually, it is not a problem because you support it with the other hand.

The result is surprising for how simple it seems. When Johnson wants to change direction, just press an indicator on the taskbar, and the monitor will change automatically.
