Slack now allows Direct Messages to be sent to members of other companies

The Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic has brought about changes in different areas of the day to day, including the workplace, which has forced companies to have to reinvent themselves to continue operating, accelerating the adoption of work-related flows in remote, with all that this entails, being already common the combination of face-to-face work with remote work in many cases.

In this regard, Slack wants to be the cornerstone of business communications for those sectors and companies that have opted for remote work in a distributed way. For this reason, the platform is addressing in recent times the needs that companies have to be in contact with third parties.

Promoting inclusivity between companies

Thanks to this, Slack developed Connect, its technology that enables collaboration between different companies through shared channels, and based on Slack Connect, Direct Messages are coming as of today.

Without going any further, Slack Connect Direct Messages is a feature they were working on in Slack in recent months, and it was introduced at the beginning of last October.

The idea is, as we can guess, to stop depending on email for business communications with third parties, whether they are partners, customers, collaborators, etc. Slack Connect Direct Messages will allow the sending of special links that start conversations, depending on the settings established by administrators in their respective workspaces in Slack.

According to Slack’s description:

Just send an invitation to any partner and start messaging in Slack as soon as the other party agrees, speeding up work that often starts with roundtrip emails.

It should be noted that the invitations have an expiration date of 14 days, after which the interested party may resend a new invitation in the event that the recipient of the same does not accept the previous invitation. And logically, Direct Messages lack meaning and possibility if both companies already have shared channels.

For now, this feature is available for those workspaces under payment plans, although Slack intends to expand it in the future also to workspaces available under free accounts.

But Slack wants to go further into business inclusiveness, so it also plans to bring a feature that will allow multiple organizations to be grouped into a private business network, unified directory sharing, channel discovery, and even application discovery.

This feature, according to Slack, will be released later this year. With this, Slack is taking steps to address the communication needs of companies and organizations, betting on inclusivity, flexibility and connectivity between companies.

It will already be a matter of knowing all the details of the new function when the time comes, also making it possible to reinvent the way in which members communicate both with others from the same organization and with third-party companies with which there is some type of link. between them.
