With the redesign of the Dropbox app for Windows 10, we can enjoy Project Neon ahead of time.

Project Neon is the name given to the new Windows 10 design; We are facing a complete redesign, beyond the simple changes that Windows 10 brings with respect to Windows 8.1.

Project Neon, the new design of Windows 10

The great novelties of Project Neon are in the advanced use of transparencies and animations; but don’t be afraid Microsoft doesn’t seem to be repeating Windows Vista errors, which abused the transparencies and did not turn out so well.

Instead of that, Project Neon’s transparencies are more subtle, and best of all, they do a job; for example, depending on the degree of transparency, a program can show the most important part of the window, in which we have to look. Microsoft has called this Acrylic.

If used correctly, these new transparencies give a sleek, modern look. Windows 10 will also have a livelier desktop; not only will windows have new animations, they will work within windows.

Project Neon is still in development, and will probably arrive with Redstone 3, the next Windows 10 update expected in September. But in the meantime, some developers are already adapting their apps to the new design.

The Dropbox app for Windows 10 is ahead of the change

Dropbox is one of these apps; With the last update, the interface already includes some of the Project Neon elements. I’m not just talking about the visual effects, but mostly about the lines of the design.

For example, one thing that is clear if we compare the app with those that were leaked at the time, is the use of a side menu, which in turn sends an intermediate menu, and this in turn to the content.

Transparencies may not work for you, especially if you are not a member of Windows Insider to use the unstable version of Windows 10; but otherwise, the final version should look very similar.

Otherwise, it’s still the same Dropbox app, with only a few patches and performance improvements.

More is expected next month about Project Neon.
