Finally comes Facebook in virtual reality, a version of the social network adapted to devices such as the Oculus Rift.
Today, Facebook has focused a lot on augmented reality, on its new platform with which it intends to look to the future. But augmented reality and virtual reality go hand in hand, as demonstrated today.
The Oculus experience, now owned by Facebook, has helped bring the concept of Facebook into virtual reality. After a couple of prototypes, it’s already functional, and it’s called Facebook Spaces.
Facebook in virtual reality may be the future of the social network
Facebook Spaces is an app that will be available today in the Oculus store, and compatible with the Rift; is an app that uses the latest technologies on the platform to connect with our Facebook friends in virtual reality.
The app use machine learning to create a virtual avatar based on our photos; Although we can modify it with the characteristics that we want. That will be what our Facebook friends will see when we connect in rooms where we can spend time as if we were in the same room.
The only difference is that it is a room that we can change as we want, for example, by putting a 360-degree video. These rooms can be personal, in which other users can speak to us separately, or communal, in which several users participate together.
In these rooms, we can talk, play, share video and images, and much more.
Speaking of video, we can make video calls in Messenger in virtual reality; We will appear on the stage we are in, but our avatar will be the one to speak.
Facebook Spaces will be available today in the Oculus store.
