It has been months since China Mobile tried to bring its Jego calling service to light, but weeks later the account registration in the service was suspended, without being very clear what was the reason for the sudden closure, although the CTO of the company argued that the June release was a prototype. Whatever the reason, Jego is now officially relaunched five months later and is available for iOS and Android.
So, we read in TNW details about Jego, or the service of China Mobile to compete with WeChat, Skype, Viber and company. As a base service with Jego we can make free calls, chat with our contacts and make HD video calls whenever we register with China Mobile with a number. The grace of the service is that we can make calls to Chinese numbers for 0.022 euros per minute (somewhat cheaper than Skype and without call establishment). Paradoxically, VoiP calls made from China or with Chinese numbers are not available due to restrictions imposed by the country’s Ministry of Industry and Information.
For the other users, any of these who do not live in China and who have an iOS or Android smartphone with an Internet connection could take advantage of the aforementioned features (if we do not have a China Mobile number we can pay a fee of 4.99 per month and have unlimited calls).
